Born: 19 November 1974
Nazia Andaleeb Preema, a prolific contemporary visual artist, has done a number of workshops and residency programs and awarded prestigious international grants all over the world in visual arts. She is one of the more prominent contemporary artists in Bangladesh art scenario today.
She has participated in over fifty prestigious group expositions round the world (India, Nepal, Thailand, Srilanka, Japan, Canada, and USA) including five Asian Art Biennale, Tashkand biennale, Istanbul Biennale (2008) and has to her credit 14 successful solo exhibitions at home and abroad (USA(2006/2011), UK(2009/2010), Morocco(2011), France(2011), India(2005/2006/2008), Turkey(2008), Norway(2009), Canada(2009), Pakistan(2007,2008), Thailand(2008) and Japan(2003) along with a virtual exposition of her work (www.preema.net) in 2003. She also has participated in a number of International Workshops and Residencies in India, Srilanka, Thailand, U.S.A., Japan, Singapore, UK, Istanbul, Pakistan, Taiwan and Bangladesh.
She received Honourable Mention award in Chitrakala Category by Jatiyo Mahila Parishod(2009),Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Award in Painting by Bangladesh Charushilpa Parishad (2007/2008), Web art and design award by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET 2006), Royal Overseas League Scholarship UK (2003), Honorable Mention Award, The Group Modern Painting Exhibition, Organized by Alliance Francaise de Dhaka (2003), Media best award in oil painting, Fine Art Department, Dhaka University (2000), 2nd prize of Miniature Painters, Sculptures and Grover’s Society of Washington DC, USA (1999).
Preema has done her Graduation (BFA) and Masters (MFA) from (drawing and painting department), University of Dhaka. To complement her creative urge, she completed a 7-year certificate course in Tagore and classical music from Chhayanat Sangit Vidyayatan. She received fellowship in Visual Arts, from the “Global Art Village”, New Delhi, India in 2005.
She is currently the Director and Curator of "Bangladesh Art Forum" a studio of Art and Design. She has been curating exhibitions to promote Bangladesh Art in International Art platform (Asia House/London(2010, November), Foundation Alliance Française/Paris(2011), Cité Internationale des Arts/Paris(2011)
Nazia Andaleeb Preema is also an advisor and creative editor to Bangladesh Brand Forum(www.bangladeshbrandforum.com) and Consultant for web, graphic and digital art for local and multinational corporate houses for last 14 years.
A pioneer web master and graphic designer in Bangladesh (working from 1997 till date), Preema has been working with various prestigious national and multi-national organizations as a web and graphic design consultant since 1997.
She is now doing her digital experimentation (video installation, performance and digital illumination along with the traditional techniques of art).
Preema’s painting been auctioned for Cancer Charity (2008) at the "Grosvenor House", London.
