Born in 1931 at Dhaka, Bangladesh

Education

1953 : Graduated in Fine Arts from the Government Institute of Art (presently, Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University), Dhaka,
1953-56 : Higher studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Florence.

Awards

1952 : First Prize at the Dhaka Art Group Show,
1957 - 1964 : National Art Exhibitions,
1957 : Honorable Mention Award,
1976 : Shilpakala Academy Award,
Grand Imperial Prize at the 5th Tehran Biennale,
1981 : Ekushey Padak,
1988 : Independence Day Award (highest civilian national awards in the field of art and culture),
1985 : Bangladesh Charu Shilpi Sangsad Honor.

Solo Exhibition

1956-2001 : Nine shows at Dhaka, Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.
1974 : Retrospective Exhibition in Dhaka
2001 : Drawings of Fifty years at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts, Dhaka.

Group Exhibition

1954-1971 : Five National Art Exhibitions at Dhaka, Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.
Numerous national and international shows in London, Rome, Florence, Milan, Washington D.C., New York, Moscow, Tehran, Baghdad, Colombo, Tokyo and Fukuoka and all Asian Art Biennale shows in Dhaka, Bangladesh, since 1981;

Triennale India, Sao Paulo Biennale and Tehran Biennale.

Collection

National Art Gallery, National Museum, Dhaka, Nordness Gallery, New York, Gallery of the Institute of the Middle East and the Orient, Rome. Many private and institutional collections at home and abroad. Murals at Bangladesh Bank, Janata Bank, Osmani Memorial Hall and many other places.
